Area Of Irregular Shapes -Sixth Class

Sixth and Fifth Class measured the area of our Field using string but in two different ways. They split into two groups, Sixth and Fifth. Our Field is an Irregular shape so we tried to find a combination of regular shapes.

We used OSI map tools to help us measure the field

Sixth Class split it into to shapes and rectangle and triangle. We used a 50m, 20m and 10m in length of string. The length of the rectangle sixth class measured 60m.The width of the rectangle was 45m. To find the area of the triangle we found the height which was 27.3m. The answer Sixth Class got was 3314.25 metre squared.

Fifth Class split the shape into 4 parts. 1 big rectangle, 1 smaller rectangle, a triangle and a bigger triangle. The length of the bigger rectangle was 62m. The width of the bigger rectangle was 46m. The length of the smaller rectangle was 35m  and the width was 20m.  The height of the triangle was 35m and the length was 26m.  Their answer was 3887 metre squared.

The Fifth class' way worked better.

Here is the answer:
